BULLOCK: Obama’s success will pay dividends to Pulaski Co.

By SUSAN WHEELDON, CJ Staff Writer
Commonwealth Journal

Pulaski County Judge-executive Barty Bullock believes that if President Barack Obama is successful in leading the United States, it could only mean good things for the state of Kentucky.

“If you look at the broad picture, the state can’t operate without federal dollars and the county can’t operate without state dollars,” said Bullock. “Saying all that, it’s the reason we should all support and pray for our president because if he is successful, we’ll all be successful.”

Bullock said when someone new goes into a leadership role, they always bring with them fresh ideas, and the ones Obama takes to Washington could have a positive impact on Pulaski County, the Commonwealth, and the nation as a whole, with the economy being at its lowest point in years.

“If the things he is doing can help the whole economy where common people can become more stable (and) buy products like new cars, it will feed down to our local industry,” said Bullock. “This would have a great effect on our economy as a whole.”

Bullock said he also hopes the 44th president can come up with ways to find more funds for state and local governments.

Pulaski County’s financial picture has recently been challenged by state budget cuts, as Kentucky currently has a budget shortfall of over $400 million. Because of this, Pulaski County is having to look at each item in the budget before approving it and has had to cut all overtime.

“I encourage all Pulaski Countains and people everywhere to stand behind and support our president,” said Bullock, “and keep him, as well as all of our other leaders, in prayer.”
