The individual most critically injured in a four-vehicle collision Monday has died as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck.
Fayette County Deputy Coroner John McCarty says Tanya K. Clark, 32, died Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington from a “traumatic brain injury” and other trauma.
Clark was injured Monday afternoon when her vehicle was pushed into oncoming traffic on North U.S. 27 in Eubank after she was rear-ended by another vehicle. She was extricated from her vehicle and airlifted to UK following the collision.
McCarty told the Commonwealth Journal that, while Clark’s address was listed as Peru, Ind., she had actually been living on Trail’s End Drive in Somerset for the last eight months. He said she was a district manager for Check Into Cash.
Clark is survived by a husband and children, McCarty said. Her body was being returned to Peru, Ind., for a funeral. McCarty said the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements there.
Five other individuals were transported to area hospitals following the incident Monday. Four who were taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital were treated and released Monday. Another individual who was airlifted to UK, 54-year-old Gary Carroll of Monticello, was in serious condition there Tuesday afternoon — however, a UK spokeswoman on Wednesday said he had been discharged Tuesday.
Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood said there were no factors at the scene of the collision which led investigators to believe that alcohol or drugs could have been a factor in the incident, however, a standard blood sample was taken from Samuel S. Jenkins, 20, of Monticello, the driver of the vehicle which initiated the wreck.
The sheriff’s department is awaiting the results of the blood test, but, Wood said, all indications are that Monday’s incident was “just a tragic accident caused by inattention or by someone just not realizing that the vehicle in front of them was stopped.”
