A trial date was set in Pulaski Circuit Court Thursday regarding a case in which a couple was indicted on charges of first-degree criminal abuse in April after authorities found evidence in their home that they struck two small children.
Kevin F. Beckman Jr., 23, of Burnside, and Cherish E. Grigsby, 24, of London, went before Circuit Judge David A. Tapp Thursday to seek a trial date in the case, which began in February when authorities investigating possible child abuse at their residence discovered that two young girls, ages two and five, had several marks and bruises on their bodies that were consistent with physical abuse.
Some of the marks revealed they had been struck with a belt.
Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Craig Whitaker and members of the Department for Health and Family Services also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the residence during the investigation.
Beckman and Grigsby were indicted on two counts each of first-degree criminal abuse and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia.
A trial date has been set for July 21.
