Two women injured in accident

Somerset — A difference of opinions over whose traffic light was green led to an injury collision on South U.S. 27 yesterday around noon.

Evellin Tolliver, 79, of Somerset, was traveling north on U.S. 27 in a Chevrolet Blazer when she struck a Chevrolet Aveo driven by 19-year-old Jessica Naylor of Bronston. Naylor had been crossing U.S. 27 into the parking lot of O’Reilly Auto Parts when the passenger’s side of her vehicle was struck by the front of Tolliver’s vehicle.

Following the collision, Naylor’s vehicle continued over a grassy hill and came to rest in the O’Reilly Auto Parts parking lot. Tolliver’s vehicle overturned and landed on its top in the middle of the northbound lanes of U.S. 27.

Naylor and Tolliver both told police they thought they had the green light at the intersection. Two witnesses to the collision said Tolliver ran the red light, causing the collision.

Both women were transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision.
