Woman injured in Ky. 80 crash

Somerset — A Russell County woman survived an accident on Ky. 80 Thursday in which her car flipped over onto its top.

At about 2:15 p.m., the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of an injury accident near the 82 mile marker on the Cumberland Parkway, about four miles east of Nancy.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that Yevonda Williams, 26, of Russell Springs was driving a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo westbound on the parkway when the wreck occurred.

Sheriff Todd Wood said that Jeffery Polston, 28, the passenger in Williams’ vehicle, told authorities that Williams felt her left wheel drop off the roadway and jerked the wheel hard to the right, overcorrecting. This caused the vehicle to spin out of control.

The Rodeo flipped onto its top and traveled about 150-200 feet that way before coming to rest against the guardrail upside down.

Williams was treated at the scene and airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition was of Thursday evening. Williams suffered severe injuries to her hand and arm in the accident, according to the sheriff’s department.

Polston refused treatment and medical transport.

Traffic was blocked on the highway for almost an hour following the wreck.

Sheriff’s units were assisted at the scene by the Nancy Fire Department, Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, and the Kentucky SAFE Patrol trucks, which helped direct traffic.
