Raymond Alcorn

Raymond Alcorn, of Somerset, was born July 1, 1920 at High Bridge, Ky., the son of the late Arthur and Anna Belle Gilbert Alcorn, and departed this life on May 9, 2008 in Wilmore, Ky., having attained the age of 87 years.
Raymond is survived by one daughter, Ellen (and Dan) Coomer of Somerset; one son, Stephen (and Joanne) Alcorn, of Winter Haven, Fla.; three grandchildren, Matthew Coomer of Lexington, Mark Coomer, New York, NY, and Libby Alcorn, Zurich, Switzerland; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Coomer, Lexington, Sarah Ellen Coomer, Lexington, and Tommy Coomer, Lexington; three nieces, Gloria Sams, Somerset, Patricia Gainey, Greenwood Ind., and Kathy Guiliani, Greenwood Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva Pennington Alcorn; and a sister, Maedell Alcorn Dykes Henderson.
Mr. Alcorn retired after 20 years with the U.S. Navy, serving during all of WWII on Navy ships in combat. He also retired from the Indiana school system in maintenance for many years. He had many interests: dog trainer, a member of Southern Indiana Birmingham Club where he trained and flew pigeons, he was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge no. 715 Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana for over 50 years.
Graveside services will be held today at Mill Springs National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. with military honors conducted by American Legion no. 8 honor guard.
The family of Mr. Raymond Alcorn will receive friends at Pulaski Funeral Home today from 12:30 pm. until 2 pm.
Pulaski Funeral is in charge of all arrangements.
