Shirley Jean McKee Helton, 71, of Somerset, departed this life on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born on July 30, 1936 in Sloans Valley, Ky., to the late George A. and Clara Cassidy McKee. She was an active member of the Bronston 1st Baptist Church, Team KID leader, active choir member, and worked in 1St Baptist Church of Somerset Mothers Day Out Program for 22 years. She was known as Mrs. Shirley to her church family and as Nan to her family. She was a great encourager and inspiration to all that knew her.
Mrs. Helton is survived by her husband, Bro. Johnie Helton, whom she married on Dec. 18, 1954 in Sloans Valley; two daughters, Sandra Kammerer of Somerset and Drenda (and Bob) Pinkleton of Rogers, Ark.; two sisters, Judith Ann Jacobs of Lexington, Ky. and Brenda (and Jim) Wilson of Somerset; three grandchildren, Danny (and Jessica) Burdine of Milford, Ohio, Megan Jill Kammerer and Molly Kate Kammerer, both of Somerset; two great grandchildren, Chloe Burdine and Tabitha Burdine, both of Milford, Ohio; and many special nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, Ryan Scott Burdine; and five brothers, Floyd V. McKee, George "Glen" McKee, Robert L. McKee, Milford Gerald “Pete” McKee, and David A. McKee.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 14 at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Carter Stewart and Rev. David Evans officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gideons Bible Memorial Plan or the Bronston 1st Baptist Church Building Fund.
Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements of Mrs. Shirley Jean McKee Helton.
