Daryl Ray Phillips, 55, of Phoenix, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 13, 1954, in Indianapolis, Ind., and moved to Phoenix at the age of seven.
He was the son of Homer and Genevieve “Gene” Phillips. Until his illness, he worked most of his life as a carpenter. He was an accomplished artist and musician, able to play the piano, guitar and harmonica. In the late 1970’s he did many artistic arrangements using wood from his backyard fence. One still hangs in the lobby of the Bank One building in Phoenix.
He is survived by a daughter, Brooke (and Daniel) Zimmerman of New River, Ariz..; his mother, Genevieve “Gene” Phillips Hogland, of Cottonwood, Ariz.; two sisters, Diane (and Bob) Phillips-Whitman of Somerset, Ky., and Cheryl (and Chuck) Hansen of Anthem, Ariz.; one brother, Tim (and Mary) Phillips of Phoenix; four grandchildren; six nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews, and many cousins here in Somerset.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer Phillips, originally of Somerset; his grandparents, Charlie and Georgia Carwile Phillips of Somerset and Leonard and Freda Gilchrist Willcox of Greeley, Colo.; and a great niece, Alexas Grace Hansen of Chicago, Ill.
Memorial service will be held Tuesday Aug. 18, at Calvary Community Church, Phoenix.
