Phyllis Johnson, age 72, of Somerset, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Born on May 8, 1937 in Lincoln County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Virgil Siler Sr. and Bertha Durham Siler Cain. She retired as a nurse from the Garrard Memorial Hospital and she was a member of the Denham Street Baptist Church in Somerset. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed reading and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Howard Johnson, whom she married on Nov. 1, 1968 in Clintwood, Va.; three sons, Howard Ray Johnson Jr. of Somerset, Michael Wayne (and Marcia) Johnson of Somerset, and Tim Johnson of Somerset; a brother, Virgil Siler of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Elma Mae Holtzclaw of Stanford, Ky.; four grandchildren, Ryan Johnson, Daulton Johnson, Lynzie Johnson, and Maria Hope Johnson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Howard and Chester Siler; and three sisters, Elizabeth Messer and two infants.
Visitation for Mrs. Johnson will be Monday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New officiating. Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky.
Arrangements are entrusted to Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.
