Arc Picnic Is A Success Thanks to Community

Dear Editor:
ARC of Lake Cumberland was formed in 1987. We are a group of concerned people who advocate for the rights of Kentuckians with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
Recently we hosted our Annual Picnic. Without the help of donations the picnic could not have been a success, also, we have just had our Annual Conference in Louisville, in which several people and businesses helped with donations for our silent auction.
Some of the agencies that donated items included Cash Express, Lake Cumberland Tourist Commission, Simply the Best, Pulaski Adult Education & Literacy Center, Cumberland Orthodontics, Darrell Bartley Jr, Belk's at Somerset Mall, JCPenny at Somerset Mall, Pat Henderson, Dianne Kiser, Holiday Inn Express, Citizens National Bank, Links and Tri-Generation. If I have forgotten please know that we appreciate you.
Other activities that we have recently sponsored include a Change Drive in which each ARC collected change to help with their local Chapter. The ARC of Lake Cumberland was the winner of this event.
Other activities that we are going to be having soon includes our first ever Poker Run. The date is Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009. The entry fee will be $20 per motorcycle. We will have prizes for the top four and worst hands. We will also be having a silent auction at the end of the ride. If you would like to make a donation please let one of us know.
The Arc of Lake Cumberland would also like to give a special thank you to Judge Barty Bullock, Patty Dempsy from the Arc of Kentucky, and William Spaw, President of the ARC of Kentucky.
We have elected new officers in January 2009. Let me introduce them; Sondra McIntyre, president; Nancy McNair, vice president; Mary Burdine, treasurer; Pat Henderson, board member; Cathy Lee, secretary; and Marsha Vanhook, legislative advocate.
Please join us at our monthly meeting the fourth Thursday of the month at Golden Correll Resturant from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
ARC of Lake Cumberland provides services in the 10 county area which includes Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne counties.
