Dear Editor:
Super Wal-Mart Sized “THANKS” to Wal-Mart…
That's right I used “Wal-Mart” not only as a noun but also as an adjective. In my humble opinion, the only thing larger and more valuable than our Somerset Wal-Mart Super Center is their employees' hearts for our community!
On Sunday August 31st, our awesome Somerset Wal-Mart gave High Street Baptist Church the privilege of handing out free hot dogs, soda and chips on their premises. Our mutual goal was to gather donations for, and to draw attention to, God's Food Pantry. As you know God's Food Pantry offers a variety of food items to individuals and families in need in our community. As you can imagine they have been hit particularly hard this year due to rising inflation and fuel costs.
Thanks to the fine people at Wal-Mart, High Street Baptist Church servants spoke with nearly 900 people and handed out more than 500 free hotdogs, chips and sodas! Most importantly we raised $300.00 for God's Food Pantry. And we highlighted the incredible ministry at God's Food Pantry. We will present God's Food Pantry an oversized Check at High Street Baptist Church this Sunday, Sept. 21, during a special service at 7 p.m. High Street Baptist Church is located at 102 Bourne Avenue, one block south of the Monticello Street Bridge. For more information about the Church, log on to www.highstreetonline.org or call (606) 678-8973!
God Bless Somerset Wal-Mart employees and patrons! Between your low prices and your high regard for those in need, your commitment to our community shines bright! As the Pastor of High Street Baptist Church, I will shop 'till-I-drop' at Wal-Mart! Hope you will too!
