To say that I had come to believe that I would never see happen in Somerset what came to pass at the most recent Somerset City Council meeting would be an understatement.
I had sat through too many fiscal court meetings, district health board meetings and too many hearings on the usage of tobacco in public buildings to ever believe that legislation or regulation would ever come to be in this community.
Therefore, I was both humbled and gratified by the recent action by Mayor Girdler and the City Council members to pass the Somerset Smoke-Free Ordinance.
I hope all constituents of these elected officials will pay close attention to this forward-thinking action and view it positively when they run for re-election in the future.
I am proud of these gentlemen and ladies and hopeful for my community.
