The Perils of Alcohol

Commonwealth Journal

Somerset — Dear Editor:

The Feb. 1, 2012, front page news of the Commonwealth Journal, read in big, bold letters, ALCOHOL at Eagle’s Nest.

The article went on to state a petition had been filed and to be forwarded to Judge (Barty) Bullock, so an election allowing alcohol beverages to be sold at the country club could be voted on.

The devastation caused by alcohol intoxication far exceeds hazards to human lives above some other things.

Thousands of lives have been lost in mangled automobile accidents, nationwide, on our highways. Homes wrecked because someone chose to drink alcohol, leaving children without food and other needs.

Ask anyone, who is or has been, a victim of a loved one who drinks alcohol.

I am a proud citizen of Pulaski County and I would like to see the use of alcohol and other drugs become history.

Human lives are a precious thing and doing away with intoxicants would be a step forward to better the lives of everyone.

This land is sick because it has been infiltrated with deadly habits by human beings.

The healing of all the land falls in the hands of people. Yes, people, we have all fallen away from the truth, the answer for all the problems that lurk on all mankind is found in one verse of II Chronicles 7:14.

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

This nation, as a whole, will loose its power as a great nation because we, the people, have sat idly by and let the creeping in of so many things that have infested our land.

Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people. – Proverbs 14:34
