A Waynesburg man died Friday morning from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on Gastineau Road, 10 miles northeast of Somerset.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department says Randal S. Brown, 26, was pronounced dead at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by the Pulaski County Coroner’s office after he was airlifted there from the scene of the collision.
Investigators say Brown was operating a 2002 Ford SUV northbound on Gastineau Road when he struck a southbound 1997 Toyota passenger car driven by Rebekah E. Mullins, 36, also of Waynesburg.
The force of the crash caused Brown’s vehicle to overturn, ejecting him.
The collision occured around 5:33 a.m. Friday.
Brown and Mullins were treated at the scene by the Somerset EMS Department. Air Methods (formerly LifeNet) airlifted Brown to LCRH, where he was pronounced dead. Mullins was transported to LCRH by ambulance. A hospital spokeswoman said Mullins was treated there, but was not admitted.
The victims lived near each other. Their residences are approximately two-and-a-half miles from each other on Ky. 1247 in Waynesburg.
Mullins told police she was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. At press time, it had not been determined whether Brown was wearing a seat belt.
The sheriff’s department’s accident reconstruction team is investigating the incident.
Blood samples were taken from both Brown and Mullins, but the sheriff’s department says there is no reason to believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Somerset EMS, Air Methods and the Science Hill/Dabney Volunteer Fire Department.
