Somerset man pleads guilty to burglary, theft charges

Several people were sentenced Tuesday in Pulaski Circuit Court, including a Somerset man who pleaded guilty to burglary and theft after attempting to sell stolen items in the parking lot of a store on Slate Branch Road.

According to a press release from Commonwealth’s Attorney Eddy F. Montgomery, Corky Lee Hendricks, 27, of Somerset pleaded guilty to burglary and theft charges after an investigation revealed that Hendricks had reportedly broken into a residence in Eubank on Sept. 26, 2007 and stolen firearms, medications and a laptop computer.

Hendricks was later found attempting to sell firearms stolen from the home in the parking lot of Better Stop Market on Slate Branch Road.

A five-year prison term was recommended and a final sentencing is set for March 20.

Other people who went before Judge Jeffrey T. Burdette Tuesday and pleaded or were sentenced include:

• Jason Brent Calhoun, 29. Calhoun was sentenced to five years in prison for second-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief. Both charges stemmed from an incident in October 2007 in which Calhoun reportedly broke into a residence and stole various items after using a propane torch on the door. The torch caused a window in the residence to break, which allowed access into the house.

Calhoun’s five-year sentence was added on to a prior probated sentence, increasing the sentence to eight years.

• April Dawn Adams, 26, of Somerset. Adams pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison for three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and three counts of second-degree persistent felony offender.

The five year sentence will run consecutively to prior felony charges for a total of seven years.

• David Girdler Jr., 26, of Somerset. Girdler pleaded guilty to first-degree fleeing or evading police after he reportedly failed to stop for a traffic stop. After a high-speed chase, Girdler escaped, and authorities later arrested him at a residence on Lewis Waddle Road. Girdler was sentenced to one year in prison.

• Debra Sue Riley, 43, of Somerset. Riley was sentenced to one year in prison for one count of theft resulting from an investigation into a possible scheme to defraud the Lake Cumberland Area Drug Task Force.

Riley had reportedly admitted to selling crushed rock salt as methamphetamine to a confidential informant with the LCADTF.

• Eddie Latham, 32, of Tateville. Latham pleaded guilty to possession of a methamphetamine precursor and was sentenced to one year in prison. During a traffic stop in April 2007, Latham was reportedly found to be in possession of three boxes of pseudoephedrine pills, all purchased on the same day from different stores.

• Charles Luther Bolin Jr., 31, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Bolin pleaded guilty to two counts of felony theft and one count of complicity to fraudulent use of a credit card.

An investigation by the Somerset Police Department connected Bolin and another defendant to a series of car thefts in March 2007 and to the use of a stolen credit card taken from a vehicle in a parking lot.

A one year sentence was recommended, and final sentencing is slated for March 20.
