Sheriff’s department arrests two in attempted theft

Local News

By CHRIS HARRIS, CJ Staff Writer
Commonwealth Journal

Sheriff’s deputies led a dogged pursuit of two suspects caught trying to steal from a local flea market Monday night, leading to a pair of arrests.

Jonathan D. Bowling, 27, of Monticello, Ky., was charged with attempted theft by unlawful taking under $200, second-degree fleeing or evading police, and third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Also taken into custody and released to a parent was a 17-year-old juvenile, charged with attempted theft by unlawful taking under $300 and second-degree fleeing or evading police.

At 10:09 p.m. Monday, Deputy Craig Whitaker was patrolling along South U.S. 27 when he observed two individuals outside the Paradise Flea Market in the Burnside area. Whitaker investigated their presence, and the subjects fled.

Deputy Whitaker deployed a canine unit and apprehended Bowling approximately 250 yards from the scene, hiding in the weeds. The juvenile suspect was found an hour later at a residence on Falcon Drive.

Further investigation revealed that the two males were attempting to steal items from one of the outside booths at the flea market.

In other activity, Lisa M. Christman, 24, of Florida, was returned to Pulaski County from Sarasota, Fla., after she was apprehended by authorities on a Pulaski Circuit Court bench warrant for probation violation.

Christman had the warrant of arrest issued for her after she violated the terms of her probation on the original charges of fraudulent use of credit cards over $100 within a six-month period. She was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
