If your spring cleaning has left you wading in heaps of items for the landfill, help is on the way.
Both county and city residents will have opportunities to get rid of large trash items during the month of April.
The City of Somerset, in cooperation with PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment) and the Pulaski County Solid Waste Board, will hold its annual citywide spring clean-up event beginning the week of April 9.
Normal trash, as well as larger items which are not normally picked up by sanitation workers, can be set out on curbs in the city limits. Some of these larger items could include old mattresses, furniture, and appliances.
The clean-up will be held for Somerset residents who live on the east side of Main Street during the week of April 9-13, and for residents on the west side of Main Street during the week of April 16-20.
The large trash items can be put out on any day of the week, and there is a limit of one pickup truck load per household.
The city will not pick up tires, batteries, paint, or other hazardous materials.
Other residents of Pulaski County will have to put a little of their own muscle behind the clean-up event.
Those residents can haul their large trash items to the Waste Connections (formerly Waste Management) building on the Ky. 914 Bypass in Somerset on April 14 and 21 from 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The Pulaski County countywide spring clean-up is also sponsored by PRIDE and the Solid Waste Board, along with Pulaski County Government and Waste Connections.
Participants in the clean-up are expected to haul and unload their items on their own, however, workers will be available at Waste Management to assist as needed.
Metals, including white goods containing Freon, will be accepted. Residents are asked to separate metal items from the rest of their trash.
Waste Connections will not accept brush, tires, liquids, or any hazardous materials.
