Army National Guard Sgt. Jared M. Smith, Army National Guard 2nd Lt. Bronson M. Sapp and Army National Guard Spec. Derrick J. Westfall have returned to the 138th Field Artillery Battalion, Carrollton, Ky., after being deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners. Reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been mobilized, activated and deployed along with active duty members to support the war against global terrorism.
Westfall is a rocket launch specialist with two years of military service, the son of Sharon S. and stepson of William R. Davidson of Neals Drive, Somerset, and a 2002 graduate of Southwestern High School, Somerset.
Smith is a radio operator with seven years of military service, the son of Paulette M. Large of Meadowcrest Drive, Somerset.
The sergeant is a 2000 graduate of Southwestern High School, Somerset.
Sapp is a platoon leader with seven years of military service, the grandson of Betty and Mitchell Goff of Summit Pointe Drive, Somerset, and nephew of Randy and Lisha Hart of Wilsontown Road, Russell Springs, Ky.
His wife, Natasha, is the daughter of Charles Newland of Butcher Estates Road, Russell Springs.
The lieutenant is a 1996 graduate of Southwestern High School, Somerset.
