Indiana woman remains critical following 4-vehicle wreck

Local News

An Indiana woman remains in critical condition following a brutal four-vehicle accident scene Monday near Eubank.

Tanya K. Clark, 32, of Peru, Ind. was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center along with another individual involved in the wreck, Gary Carroll, 54, of Monticello, Ky.

A spokesperson with UK said Tuesday that Clark was listed as being in “critical” condition and Carroll was in “serious” condition.

Immediately following the accident, which occurred at 2:37 p.m. Monday, conditions were not available for the patients, though Sheriff Todd Wood reported that Clark was considered “very critical” at the time she was flown out.

Four other individuals were taken to the hospital following the collision. Paula F. Weddle, 44, Liberty; Tonya New, 29, Crab Orchard, Dorothy Foley, 67, Eubank, and one-year-old Steven Zelaya were all transported via Somerset Fire/EMS and the Waynesburg Rescue Squad to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Susan Wilson, community relations director at LCRH, said the four were treated in the emergency room but not admitted to the hospital.

The wreck, which occurred approximately 12 miles north of Somerset, happened when Murrell C. Denney, 71, of Waynesburg, was waiting to run left onto Skyline Drive, and Clark was slowing down behind the Denney vehicle on U.S. 27. The Clark vehicle was struck from behind by a Chevrolet driven by Samuel S. Jenkins, 20, Monticello.

The impact pushed Clark’s vehicle into the rear of Denney’s and then into the northbound lane, where it was ht again by a Chevrolet driven by Weddle. Clark’s vehicle then crossed back into the southbound land and struck the Denney vehicle a second time.

Wood said that, “remarkably, there was only minor damage” to the Denney vehicle. Denney and a passenger in his vehicle were injured and were able to drive away from the scene once the other vehicles were cleared.

Clark was extricated from her vehicle and treated at the scene by Somerset Fire/EMS.

Carroll was a passenger in the Jenkins vehicle. He was also treated at the scene.

New, Zelaya and Foley were all passengers in the Weddle vehicle.
