Somerset —
Numerous people were sentenced to prison terms during criminal motion hour in Pulaski Circuit Court Thursday, including a man who was arrested and charged with burglary in 2007 in connection with a break-in at a local business.
According to a press release from the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office, Christopher Dale Brown, 29, of Somerset, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for third-degree burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to Montgomery, in July 2007, “Suds in a Bucket” was broken into and several items were stolen that were worth over $300. An investigation conducted by the Somerset Police Department and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department led authorities to a truck being driven by Brown.
A search of the truck uncovered the stolen property, along with a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun.
Brown was linked to the truck and the items through fingerprint identification.
Pulaski Circuit Judge Jeff Burdette sentenced Brown to 10 years in prison.
The following people also had their cases resolved in Pulaski Circuit Court Thursday:
• Crystal Murphy, 26, of Somerset, was sentenced to four years in prison for multiple counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument in connection with an incident in May 2007 in which Murphy passed several forged checks in the county, according to Montgomery.
A pretrial diversion was voided in April 2008 after Murphy failed to provide restitution for the charges.
Burdette sentenced Murphy to four years in prison.
• Linda Sue Mounce, 44, of Somerset, was sentenced to five years in prison for first-degree possession of a controlled substance after she failed to meet the provisions as part of a pretrial diversion stemming from an indictment of possession of a controlled substance that was handed down in October 2005.
Mounce tested positive for controlled substances, including methamphetamine, benzodiazepine and hydrocodone in March.
Mounce was sentenced to five years in prison.
• Billy A. Robinson, 20, of Eubank pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment. According to Montgomery, on July 21, 2007, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department attempted conduct a traffic stop after Robinson was observed speeding. Robinson fled in high speed, nearly hitting several sheriff’s deputies who had formed a roadblock with their cars at the intersection of Ky. 39 and Ky. 70.
During the pursuit Robinson left his car and fled on foot. He was apprehended after an altercation.
Montgomery stated he would recommend 18 months imprisonment.
Burdette set final sentencing for June 19.
• Gary L. Ramsey was sentenced to three years in prison for flagrant non-support. According to Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney David L. Dalton, in February 2008, Ramsey was indicted for failing to provide over $5,000 in child support.
Ramsey entered a plea of guilty and was released on bond on March 20 with the possibility of a probated sentence.
The possible probated sentence was thrown out when, during the hearing, a sheriff’s deputy testified that Ramsey had been discovered passed out in a vehicle in March in the Mill Springs Video Store Parking Lot, and that Ramsey reportedly refused a blood alcohol test.
Burdette imposed a three-year prison sentence.
• Paul Harrison Mays Jr.¸ 29, of Richmond, pleaded guilty to one count of felony fraudulent use of a credit card.
According to Montgomery, an investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department determined that in August 2007, Mays used a stolen credit card to make over $1000 worth of purchases from Speedway South and Xtreme Audio.
A one-year prison sentence was recommended to be served in addition to a sentence stemming from a prior felony conviction from Madison County.
Final sentencing was set for June 19.
