Parents have just a few days to register to give their children chances to win any of several bicycles through the Somerset Police Department.
The bicycles, which will be donated to local children, were recovered by the SPD as lost or stolen property over the past year.
Parents can come to the SPD, located at the corner of East Mount Vernon and College streets, during regular business hours to complete an entry form for a chance to receive a bike. The drawings will take place Tuesday, July 1.
Winners will also receive a free helmet and will have the opportunity to attend a bicycle safety course conducted by the SPD’s bike patrol unit.
The new owners of the bicycles will also be able to complete a registration form which can assist law enforcement in case the bicycle is lost or stolen in the future. The registration form helps officers match the serial number and description of the bike with its rightful owner in the same way stolen vehicles are located, explained SPD Detective Shannon Smith.
Bicycle registration forms are available to everyone in the community. Simply pick up a form at the police department. The forms will be kept on file at the SPD.
Smith said the SPD thanks Pulaski District Judges Katie Wood and Scott Lawless for their assistance in allowing the bicycles to be donated to local children.
