A Somerset woman was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Tuesday morning for injuries she sustained when she was hit by a car while crossing the street in front of her home.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Depart-ment, Christine M. Reed, 86, of Ky. 39, was crossing the highway at approximately 8:15 a.m. to go to her mailbox when she stepped into the path of a northbound 2003 Mazda operated by Connie Gale Hart, 42, of Silver Star Road, Somerset.
Reed was treated at the scene by Somerset Pulaski County Fire/EMS. A LifeNet helicopter landed at the nearby First Christian Church and Reed was transported to UK Medical Center.
Lt. Philip Cross of the sheriff’s department said Reed suffered multiple injuries from the collision.
Cross also said it was unknown how fast Hart’s car was traveling at the time of the accident.
Hart was treated at the scene and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by Somerset Pulaski County Fire/EMS.
Traffic was rerouted off of Ky. 39 for a while the accident was reconstructed.
Reed was listed in critical condition at the UK Medical Center as of press time.
