Two people were injured Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident that occurred approximately 14 miles east of Somerset.
Emergency personnel responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on East Ky. 80 at 10:34 a.m. Tuesday. An investigation at the scene revealed that John Morgan, 18, of Stinnett, Ky. was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Ky. 80 when the vehicle crossed the center line and entered into the eastbound lane, striking an eastbound 2002 International car hauler in the left side.
The International was being operated by Steven Wilson, 43, of Fairview, Tenn. at the time of the incident.
The force of the impact broke the rear axle of the International, causing the truck to enter the ditch line on the south side of Ky. 80. The Morgan vehicle came to rest on the north side of Ky. 80.
Morgan indicated to emergency personnel on the scene that he had fallen asleep while driving, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
Morgan and Ladetra Morgan, 19, of Stinnett, Ky., who was a passenger in the Chevrolet at the time of the incident, were both treated at the scene by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
According to LCRH spokesperson Susan Ramsey Wilson, Ladetra Morgan was treated in the emergency room and released. No information was available on John Morgan.
Wilson and a passenger in the International, Cody Wilson, 18, of Fairview, Tenn., were not injured in the collision.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on the scene by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS and the Shopville-Stab Fire Department.
