Man arrested after hit-and-run accident

Local News

Commonwealth Journal

A Somerset man was arrested Saturday night after he fled the scene of an injury accident that took place approximately five miles west of Somerset on West Ky. 80.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Mark N. Stringer, 38, of 7850 Ky. 1643, Somerset, was operating a 1994 Chevrolet pickup westbound on Ky. 80 at approximately 9:56 p.m. when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 2000 Chevrolet operated by Louis E. Lane, 74, of 551 Porter Creek Road, Nancy.

Stringer left the scene of the accident in his vehicle and was observed traveling west on Ky. 80 by Deputy Steve Molen.

Molen attempted to stop the vehicle, but Stringer reportedly fled, and a short pursuit ensued before Stringer was stopped just east of Nancy.

Lane was treated at the scene of the accident and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Stringer was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, failure of owner to maintain insurance, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree wanton endangerment and expired registration plate.

Stringer was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $20,000 cash or property bond.
