Somerset man pleads guilty to drug charges

A Somerset man pleaded guilty to drug charges last Wednesday in connection with a search that was undertaken in March 2007 at his home that uncovered marijuana.

According to a press release from Commonwealth’s Attorney Eddy F. Montgomery, Matthew McFadden, 45, pleaded guilty to first-degree possession of methamphetamine and trafficking in marijuana over eight ounces.

The charges stem from an incident from March 2007 in which the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office received information that McFadden was selling marijuana from his home at 10 Cromer Drive.

The sheriff’s department received a warrant for the residence and conducted a search on March 2, 2008.

Over eight ounces of marijuana, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia related to the distribution of marijuana and a .22 caliber Taurus pistol and a .410 derringer were found.

A Pulaski County grand jury later indicted McFadden on the drug charges, along with possession of a firearm. The firearm charge was dismissed upon McFadden’s guilty plea to the drug charges.

An eight year prison sentence was recommended.

Pulaski Circuit Judge David A. Tapp set final sentencing for July 24.
