Bullock makes changes to CVB board

Neikirk, Zimmer replaced by former CVB members

By TRICIA NEAL CJ Staff Writer

County Judge-executive Barty Bullock’s office has appointed two new members to the Somerset-Pulaski Convention and Visitors Bureau’s board, and another member is now serving in an at-large position.

The terms of board members Joel Zimmer and Bill Neikirk expired on June 30. Eugene Davis and Becky Hines, both of whom had previously served on the bureau’s board, were appointed earlier this month. Lois Hatfield, a current member, was renamed the county judge’s at-large member instead of remaining as a hotel industry representative.

CVB Director Carolyn Mounce says she believes Judge Bullock made the changes in an attempt to “make the board legal according to Kentucky Revised Statues.”

According to Mounce, CVB bylaws call for the board to be comprised of seven members — three representing the hotel industry, one representing the restaurant industry, one representing the Chamber of Commerce, and two at-large members appointed by the county judge.

Davis will fill Hatfield’s term as a hotel representative. That term expires in July of 2008.

Hatfield’s term as an at-large member will expire in June of 2010.

Hines was also appointed as a hotel representative, and her term will also expire in June of 2010.

Board member Barb Sanders, whose term had also expired June 30, was re-appointed by Bullock to a three-year term as the Chamber of Commerce’s representative. Her term will expire in June of 2010.

“I have enjoyed working with the previous board, and I look forward to working with this board,” Mounce said.

During a board meeting held earlier this month, members elected Mark Bastin as chairman, Lois Hatfield as vice chairman, Marlene Haney as secretary, and Barb Sanders as treasurer. Bastin, Haney, and Sanders had previously held those positions.

The terms of current members Haney and Johnny Tuttle will expire next year. Bastin’s term will expire in September of this year.
