SKRECC: Power outages hit local counties

Local News

CJ Staff Report
Commonwealth Journal

A rather large storm system came through the southwestern portion of the South Kentucky RECC service territory Monday, July 21, causing several outages.

At around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, a storm hit the area affecting approximately 3,400 members with the majority of the outages centered in Wayne County, as well as a number of outages in Pulaski, Clinton, Russell and McCreary counties.

According to Vice President of Engineering for SKRECC Steve Conover, the majority of the outages were caused by trees or limbs falling on power lines and breaking them.

Conover says he appreciates all the members’ patience with the restoration efforts.

“We realize that it is difficult to be without power, and we appreciate all our members and how understanding they are in these types of situations. I also want to remind members that if they should happen to see a power line down, to report it, and to stay away from it. Every wire on the ground needs to be considered energized and dangerous. Members should also try to keep others away from it until assistance arrives.”

SKRECC crews and contractors worked around the clock and by around 4 a.m. Tuesday morning power had been restored to nearly all the members.
