‘Fight Back Express’ bus highlighting cancer awareness across U.S.

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network’s Fight Back Express bus recently made a stop in Lexington during its 48-state tour.

The Fight Back Express, an activity of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN), carries the mobile message that Americans have the power to fight cancer in this country with their voices.

The bus is on a six-month tour highlighting the crucial role elected officials play in supporting laws and policies that help people fight cancer.

The ACS CAN Fight Back Express kicked off in Ohio in early May and will travel across the 48 continental United States through Election Day, Nov. 4.

The Fight Back Express is a mobile action center. At each bus stop visitors can share their stories with their members of Congress through Picture A Cure. They’ll also have the opportunity to send text messages and write messages on the sides of the Fight Back Express, making it a petition on wheels.

Somerset cancer survivors Barbara Hall, Gayle Allen and Nancy Melton were among those attending the Lexington Fight Back Express ceremony.

Also attending the event was Candi Burton of Somerset.

Breast Cancer survivor Nancy Melton spoke out during the ceremony about her cancer journey and encouraged everyone to Fight Back against cancer.

Melton said, “Early detection is the key to surviving. I urge everyone to get screenings each year.”

ACS CAN supports evidence-based policy and legislative solutions for a number of cancer-related issues including prevention and early detection, increased funding for cancer research and tobacco control.
