Two arrested for burglarizing store

By HEATHER PYLES, CJ Staff Writer
Commonwealth Journal

Two people were arrested yesterday after authorities responded to a report of an alarm going off at a business north of Somerset.

At approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Pevley responded to a report of an alarm at Paul’s Discount, located on Ky. 2227 north of Somerset.

Upon arrival, two suspects were reportedly discovered in front of the store’s vending machines. Both individuals fled on foot, and deputies were led to the back of the building, where the suspects were lost.

With help from the Somerset Police Department’s K-9 unit Aries and handler Eric Moore, the suspects were found at a barn on Bodie Road. Pevley and other units apprehended the suspects without further incident and transported them back to the crime scene, according to the sheriff’s department.

It was then discovered that a vending machine had been vandalized and the change box removed.

Anthony L. Goldsmith Jr., 19, of Somerset, was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree burglary, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot and second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor.

A juvenile was also arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, third-degree burglary and first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
