Somerset man arrested after being chased by police

Pursuit involved SPD, Pulaski Sheriff’s deputies, Kentucky State Police

Commonwealth Journal

A Somerset man was arrested after he led officers from three different law enforcement agencies on a pursuit Wednesday night.

Arrested after a four-mile pursuit was Robert Weddle, 39, of Mooreland Drive.

He was charged with DUI third offense, first-degree fleeing or evading police, driving on a DUI suspended license, and resisting arrest.

According to Detective Shannon Smith, public information officer for Somerset Police Depart-ment, units responded to a report of criminal mischief at a residence near Langdon Street around 10 p.m.

Smith said that as patrol units were taking information from the victim, a pickup truck matching the suspect’s vehicle description drove nearby, then sped away.

Sgt. Jason Griffith tried pulling over the pickup truck driven by Weddle on Ky. 80, but he refused to stop, traveling west to Hacker Road, then north to Mooreland Drive. There the truck left the roadway and struck nearby trees. The truck then rolled into a parked vehicle and came to rest.

Weddle resisted arrest when officers tried to take him into custody.

Smith said once he was arrested Weddle was treated at the scene for injuries he received when his vehicle collided with the trees.

Weddle was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by Somerset Fire/EMS.

Smith said Weddle was later released and then lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Assisting in the pursuit were the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department and the Kentucky State Police.

As of Thursday afternoon, Weddle was still lodged in the detention center with a bond of $5,000 cash.
