Hunter found dead at Green River

Campbellsville, Ky. — The body of one of two hunters reported missing this weekend in western Kentucky was discovered by officials Saturday, and the second hunter remains missing.

According to social media reports, the hunter who was still missing as of Saturday evening may be a Pulaski County resident.

Green County Coroner Carol Ray reported to media outlets on Saturday that the body of Harold D. Wethington was recovered from the Green River in Taylor County. The officials cause of death was drowning.

Search efforts for the other missing hunter were expected to continue until dark on Saturday.

Family members of the two men reported them missing Friday evening after they didn’t return from their hunt. The two men reportedly launched their boat Friday morning at the Green River Boat Ramp just below the tail-waters of Green River Lake seven miles south of Campbellsville. The two men were going duck hunting, according to published reports.

Officials discovered the men's vehicle was still in the parking lot of the boat ramp, which prompted an immediate search by Campbellsville–Taylor County Fire & Rescue, according to published reports.

The men's boat was located approximately 14 miles downstream near the Taylor–Green County line at 11:48 p.m. Friday night. According to media reports, the boat was found pinned against a tree in the water.

Officials said family members described the men as experienced hunters who had hunted in the area a number of times.

Rescuers suspended looking for the men at 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning and resumed the search at 7 a.m. Saturday. Officials reported that high water levels of Green River were causing some issues in the search.

Wethington’s body was reportedly discovered at around 2 p.m. Saturday around 26 miles downstream from where he and the other man were hunting.

About 50 rescuers have participated in the search.

Officials are declining to officially release the name of the still-missing hunter pending the outcome of the search.
