Girdler reelected to KLC Board

Somerset —

Somerset Mayor Eddie Girdler was recently reelected to serve on the executive board and board of directors for the Kentucky League of Cities.
Girdler has been involved in the league’s efforts in several areas, including in legislative issues that impact cities, and in legislation that helped cities and counties work with the private sector to get new rules passed by the Kentucky General Assembly that will make it possible for greater public/private expansion in the natural gas industry.
Girdler was also involved in the league’s efforts to reduce residential and small business taxes, and in meetings within the league to explore new initiatives for economic growth and expansion for cities, according to a press release from the City of Somerset.
The press release also states Girdler has also met with the National League of Cities in Boston and Phoenix to discuss ways cities can reduce taxes, to discuss best practices for city/county services, and to discuss leveraging of local funds in economic and community development.
Girdler was also appointed to serve on Governor Steve Beshear’s advisory board for the Kentucky Housing Corporation to represent the Kentucky League of Cities.
“He (Girdler) has been involved in developing statewide housing policy and programs to reduce foreclosures and keep families in homeownership and provide funds for rental payments on behalf of renters ...” states the press release.
Girdler headed the Somerset Housing Authority for several years before he was elected mayor of Somerset.
“Over the past year, the policies have allowed thousands of Kentucky families to remain homeowners and actually reduce the cost of monthly mortgage payments,” states the press release.
