Rodney Dick leaves jailer’s race to care for his father

Nine candidates remain

Somerset —

One of 10 candidates for Pulaski County jailer has withdrawn from the race.
Rodney Dick told the Commonwealth Journal he is getting of the jailer’s race because his father, Delmer Dick, has health problems.
“I don’t feel I could run for jailer and do what I need to do for my dad,” said Dick. “I’ve given the matter a lot of thought ... (the decision to get out of the race) wasn’t a spur of the moment thing. A smart man can change his mind.”
“I have the money to run. I didn’t have to go to anyone for money. It wasn’t that,” he said.
Dick, an employee of the Pulaski County Road Department for 25 years and a farmer in the Nancy community, said getting out of the jailer’s race doesn’t mean he is getting out of politics.
Active in agricultural circles, Dick said he has some favorites in other local races he will support during the upcoming election.
“I’ve been schooled by some of the better political minds in the county,” Dick said. “I talked politics with (the late) Lavey Floyd as a teenager, and I sat many times at the feet of (the late) Doris Petercheff. Floyd was magistrate from the 2nd District for 22 years and spent six years as state legislator in Frankfort. Petercheff was often described as one of the most savvy politicians in the county. She was long associated with Congressman Tim Lee Carter and Hal Rogers and later had her own political consulting firm, One Acron.
Dick said he might look at the jailer’s office again sometime down the road.
Left in the jailer’s race are Michael Hall, Anthony McCollum, Gary Ed Cromer, Rodney Stevens, David Moss, incumbent Mike Harris, Rodney Baker, Eric Henderson and Jeff R. Burton.
