Snow won’t stick around for Christmas

Forecast calls for holiday temps in 40s

Somerset —

If you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, you may as well get out of bed. It ain’t gonna happen.
There could be a dusting of snow in the Somerset area this morning, but it won’t last until Christmas. It’s almost a certainty there won’t be a White Christmas in Pulaski County.
The forecast for Christmas Day is a high of 46 degrees. The wind will be from the northeast at 6 miles an hour. It will be cloudy with a 20 percent chance of rain.
Pulaski countians will suffer through a sharp cold spell this weekend. It was still about 50 degrees and raining at midafternoon yesterday but the temperature was supposed to drop sharply before nightfall. By the time you read this it will be windy and cold and there could be some snow showers.
Hal Klingenberg, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Jackson, said wind gusts could reach 40 mph last night and into this morning.
The cold spell won’t be extended. Thank goodness, winds will calm before Santa makes his rounds at midnight Christmas Eve. A gusty wind makes it difficult for Santa to land his sleigh on rooftops. You could miss out even if you have been good.
Klingenberg said highs both Friday and Saturday will be in the 30s. Lows may dip to the low 20s or upper teens in some valley locations.
However, by Sunday, temperatures should be in the upper 40s.
