Mysterious box investigated by police

Turns out to be used as step stool

Somerset — Around 8:30 p.m., some SPD officers who were eating at Sonny's off South U.S. 27 were approached by a man who had discovered an equipment box in a handicap parking space. 

The box seemed suspicious, and officers treated it as a potential threat to public safety, calling in the Kentucky State Police Hazardous Devices Unit, the Somerset Fire Department, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, and the Region 12 Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Team to help with an investigation.

The area was secured while the investigation was underway.

About 45 minutes later, it was determined that the box had been used as a step stool so a woman could get into her vehicle. After the box had been used, the husband of the woman drove off, forgetting the box.
