A Laurel County man is in serious condition following an early morning wreck on East Ky. 80 in Pulaski County.
Steven Cavan, 22, of London was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the single-vehicle crash, which happened at approximately 6:27 a.m. Saturday.
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Cavan was driving a 1989 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on Ky. 80, just west of Eastway Grocery and Gas.
Deputy Jason Lay said that it appeared to authorities that Cavan ran off the road on the left side. He went over the median and overturned several times before coming to rest in the eastbound lane.
Cavan had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad. He was flown via Air Methods to Lexington, where he was listed as being in “serious” condition on Saturday afternoon.
Lay said that authorities don’t yet know for certain what caused Lay to cross the roadway and overturn, and that the wreck is still under investigation.
The roadway was completely shut down for about an hour following the wreck, reopening around 7:30 a.m.
In addition to the rescue squad and sheriff’s department, Public Safety Director Tiger Robinson, local EMS and the Shopville-Stab Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
