Despite weather, Christmas Parade is on

Somerset — It may seem like the massive storm system moving through the area could ruin the weekend’s upcoming holiday events, but that isn’t the case.

The Somerset Christmas parade is still set for 5 p.m. Saturday, and the ceremonial lighting of the town Christmas tree will follow at Fountain Square.

Although Pulaski County is in for a couple of rounds of rain — as in, possibly more than four-and-a-half inches of it — and some overnight wintry mixes on Friday and Saturday, the weather is expected to calm during the day Saturday. That will leave a window for the annual parade and Christmas tree lighting to be held as scheduled.

This year’s theme for the parade is “Christmas in Kentucky,” and organizers are hoping to see at least as many parade entries as last year’s parade, which saw around 100 participating organizations.

Local personalities John Alexander and Jane Correll will give their parade commentary on the radio, broadcasting from a balcony on First Baptist Church.

The day’s activities are sponsored by the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Somerset Development Corporation, Somerset-Pulaski Co. Convention & Visitors Bureau, Pulaski County Public Library, Pulaski County Fiscal Court and the City of Somerset.
