Man arrested after Sunday night crash

Somerset —

Two people were injured and another arrested in a two-vehicle accident Sunday night on East Ky. 914.
According to Det. Chris Gates of the Somerset Police Department, Jonathan Moore, 24, of Eubank, was arrested for driving under the influence following the accident that took place just north of the connection with Rose Road, between Rush Branch Road and Ky. 192.
Gates said that Moore was driving a 2000 Pontiac Firebird when he ran into the back of a 1999 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Joshua Johnson, 28, of Ferguson.
Johnson had apparently slowed down or brought the motorcycle to a stop in the westbound lane when Moore “basically ran it over,” according to Gates. It’s possible that the two men knew each other and were traveling together at the time, he said.
“There was no stop sign, no traffic control device, nothing but straight stretch on that hill,” said Gates. “There was nothing to make the motorcycle stop unless something ran out in front of it.”
It’s not known if Johnson was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
There was a female passenger on the back of the motorcycle whom Johnson apparently didn’t know and was just giving a ride, according to Gates. She has not been positively identified as of presstime.
Both patients on the motorcycle were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Gates said that Johnson is “fine” with non-life threatening injuries, and is there for observance. The female appears to be in worse shape, though because of the inability to identify her — she had no ID on her at the time of the wreck, said Gates — a condition was unavailable.
“They thought she might have had some severe head trauma,” said Gates. “(The hospital personnel said) ‘We can’t tell you a whole lot. She’s not going to die.’”
