Boat Dock Road fire

Somerset —

The Parkers Mill Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 2631 Boat Dock Road at around 11:30 p.m. Friday night, according to a local firefighter. A detached storage facility, about the size of a two-car garage, caught fire, said Keith Price, assistant chief of the Parkers Mill Fire Department. Price said that the adjacent house was vacant, on the property of the late Homer Simpson, but that the farm property had been leased out to another individual. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time; there was no electricity in the shed, said Price, but there was an old pick-up truck inside. No one was present at the time of the fire, and there were no animals inside, except for some cats, which Price said “all got out alive.” The structure was “on the ground” by the time firefighters arrived, a total loss, but they stayed on the scene for a couple of hours to battle the flames which had spread to nearby trees, threatening to cause a woods fire. Price noted that the facility will “smolder for a day or two.”
