SPD investigating head-on crash downtown

Somerset —

Police are still investigating a head-on collision in Somerset that left two people injured.
Emergency workers were called to East Mt. Vernon Street in front of Food Fair at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Capt. Shannon Smith, with the Somerset Police Department, the accident occurred when an eastbound Chrysler Town and Country van, driven by Shonna Alban, of Science Hill, crossed the center line and collided with a pick-up truck.
Smith said the driver of the pick-up truck, who has yet to be identified, was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for his injuries.
Alban was also transported to LCRH, and she was admitted for serious injuries, according to Smith.
Alban may be facing charges in connection with the accident. Smith said witnesses told police officers they saw her hide something in nearby decorative mulch after the wreck happened.
Officers eventually found a syringe, spoon, and straw in the mulch.
“We are investigating impairment as a possible contributing factor to the collision,” said Smith.
The Somerset Fire Department also responded to the accident.
