Two injured in small plane crash in Bronston

Somerset — Two men were airlifted to the University Kentucky Medical Center yesterday afternoon from the site of an airplane crash near Bronston.

The pilot has been identified as Gary McGlothin, 54, from Lexington, Ky., and his passenger has been identified as Charles Jackson, 55, of Winchester, Ky. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office reported that both men were able to walk away from the wreckage before being airlifted by Air Methods. Preliminary reports indicated one man was suffering from chest pains and the other had head injuries.

The extent of the injuries were not immediately known.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, McGlothin's 1974 Piper Warrior — a small aircraft — was attempting to conduct a soft takeoff from the Boss Airfield in Bronston. The plane failed to achieve enough altitude for takeoff and crashed in an adjacent field.

After the crash, a fire erupted in the plane and was extinguished by the Bronston Fire Department.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, the FAA and NTSB have been notified and will conduct an investigation into the crash.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, the Bronston fire Department, the Kentucky Fire Marshal's Office, the Kerntucy State Police and the Somerset EMS Department all responded to the scene.
