Accident injures driver

Somerset — Michelle Barker, 44, of Hillrise Drive, Somerset and the driver of this 2006 Dodge Caravan was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Wednesday after a three-vehicle accident occurred on North Ky. 1247 near the intersection of Oak Leaf Lane. According to information provided by Somerset Police Department, the accident happened after another vehicle and Barker’s van were stopped in the southbound lane of Ky. 1247 because of a trash can in the road. A third vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with Barker’s van from behind, pushing the van into the vehicle in front of it. No one else was injured in the accident.

    A heated sidewalk to melt snow and ice was “quite the thing” a half century ago in a small town like Somerset. This town’s first and only electrically warmed sidewalk was installed facing Fountain Square alongside First and Farmers National Bank when the bank’s downtown headquarters building was constructed in 1963-64.
    As snow fell, the warm sidewalk melted a walkway about 2 feet wide alongside the bank. It was the talk of the town; quite a gimmick.
