Somerset man arrested for inappropriate touching

Hammonds charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse

Somerset —

Somerset Police have made in an arrest in a series of reported incidents of inappropriate contact with females in local stores.
Arrested was Robert Aaron Hammonds, 38, of Somerset, according to the Somerset Police Department (SPD).
Hammonds was the subject of recent media attention when police released surveillance video asking for the public's help in identifying him.
The investigation began May 31 when two women told SPD they'd been touched in an inappropriate manner while shopping at TJ Maxx in Somerset.
Detectives released still images and video clips of the suspect and this lead to numerous tips coming in from viewers.
"We released the surveillance video hoping the public could help us in this investigation and they gave us over a dozen tips that identified the man as Robert A. Hammonds. The public helped solve this case," said Lt. Shannon Smith of SPD.
Hammonds' arrest was delayed a few days as more victims came forward after the video was released. The number of victims who have been identified currently stands at six.
Hammonds was arrested while hiding out at a residence on North Ky. 1247 just before midnight Saturday night, June 8. He was arrested by Officer Randall Smith on a Pulaski District Court warrant charging him with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a felony charge, and three counts of third-degree sexual abuse, which are misdemeanors.
He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
The case remains under investigation by Detective Larry Patterson.
