As the family of a man killed last week in a car accident continue to cope, others are finding out they reached out to another Somerset family several months ago when their own loved ones were involved in a serious car crash.
Josef Phillippi, 37, of Somerset, was killed Friday afternoon on Ky. 461 after the passenger car he was driving struck a semi truck head-on.
It wasn’t long after the crash happened Friday when hundreds were alerted to the Phillippi family’s role in supporting young Jaden Jasper and her family. Jaden Jasper and her father, Jimmy Jasper, were involved in a serious car accident in March on Pumphouse Road. Jaden and Jimmy Jasper both suffered serious injuries, and Jaden underwent rehabilitation to recover from a depressed skull fracture and other injuries.
Karen Miller, Jaden Jasper’s aunt, posted Friday on the “Prayers for Jaden” Facebook page — followed by more than 6,000 people — about Phillippi’s death.
“ ... I have absolutely no words that can begin to describe the pain we feel for this family,” Miller stated through the post.
Josef Phillippi leaves behind his wife, Jaymee Loveless Phillippi, two daughters and two sons.
Josef and Jaymee Phillippi’s daughters helped launch the “Prayers for Jaden” page, with Jaymee’s help, according to the post.
“The entire Phillippi family (Joe included) did so much more than start a web page for Jaden, they gave unselfishly of their time and money to do whatever they could to help our entire family in a time of (despair),” Miller stated. “We could never do enough to thank and or repay them for everything they have done for us.”
Josef Phillippi was pronounced dead Friday at the scene of the accident, which occurred around three miles north of the Ky. 461-East Ky. 80 intersection. Police say Phillippi’s northbound car drifted into the southbound lane and collided head-on with tractor trailer driven by David Foster, 39.
Foster was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on Friday and later released.
Pulaski County Coroner Chuck Godbey said Phillippi was apparently on his way home from working at TTAI when the accident happened.
A funeral service for Phillippi is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Visitation will be held today after 5 p.m. at Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
