Shearer: Pulaski is working on two industrial prospects

Somerset —

Prospects for new industrial jobs coming to any community during these economic times are tenuous at best, but the outlook for the Somerset-Pulaski County community could be rosy.
“I would say within the past couple of months, particularly since the first of the year, there has been more activity and new connections,” said Martin Shearer, executive director of the Somerset-Pulaski County Development Foundation. “I don’t know how we’ll come out but we’ve made some proposals.”
Shearer said two prospects are on the front burner.
“I was just on the telephone with one of them,” he revealed. This prospect is one of two with which the development foundation has been involved since the first of the year.
Pulaski County Judge-executive Barty Bullock, speaking to the Somerset Kiwanis Club a few weeks ago, alluded to an industrial prospect that would bring 600 new jobs to this community. Shearer confirmed this is one of the contacts to which he referred.
Shearer said some of the industrial prospects being wooed by the development foundation are assembly plants and others are manufacturers.
“Any announcement (of a new factory) is weeks away,” he noted.
“We do have some potential for growth among our existing industries,” Shearer concluded.
