Nancy man pleads guilty to child porn charges

Somerset —

A Pulaski County man arrested in December in a state-wide child pornography investigation pleaded guilty to related charges in court.
James E. Baker, 40, of Nancy, appeared before Pulaski Circuit Judge David A. Tapp and pleaded guilty to four counts of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and four counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, according to Eddy F. Montgomery, Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Baker was initially charged on December 12, 2012 with 10 counts of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor and 50 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. Those charges stemmed from a September 2012 investigation carried out by Kentucky State Police revealed a computer in Pulaski County contained child exploitation files that were avalable for file sharing, according to Montgomery.
KSP followed up with a search warrant on Baker’s residence in Nancy, and a search of Baker’s computer uncovered 50 files of child pornography.
KSP interviewed Baker, who admitted to downloading and possessing images and videos relating to sexual images of children aged seven to 16 years old, according to Montgomery.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney David L. Dalton stated during the hearing in late April that he would recommend 20 years in prison for the charges. Baker would also be registered for life on the sex offender registry.
Tapp revoked Baker’s bond and remanded him into custody and set final sentencing for June 27, 2013.
Montgomery thanked the Kentucky State Police for their thorough investigation and noted that the case was prosecuted by Jeremy Bartley.
