local news

SOMERSET — — The man who took part in an incident that left one man dead from a gunshot wound last summer pleaded guilty yesterday in circuit court to charges related to the events leading up to the shooting.

John M. Strunk, 47, of Science Hill appeared before Pulaski Circuit Judge David A. Tapp and pleaded guilty to one count of witness intim-idation, according to Asstistant Com-monwealth’s At-torney David L. Dalton.

Strunk and another person involved in the deadly July 23 incident, Heather Goff, 30, were both indicted in November on one count each of intimidating a witness in the legal process in con-nection with the shooting at a northern Pulaski County residence that left Goff’s husband, Jim Wesley “Bun” Goff, then 34, dead.

Authorities said Jim Strunk, Heather Goff and Jim Wesley “Bun” Goff were returning to the residence, located on West Ky. 635 in Science Hill, on July 23 to “retaliate” against the home’s resident after he pressed trespassing charges against them in connection with an incident from the night before.

Joshua Pyles, who rents the house on the property where the incident took place, reported that the night before the shooting Heather Goff, Jim Wesley Goff and John Strunk had attempted to steal several items from him.

The three individuals were charged with criminal trespassing and arrested. The shooting oc-curred the next day after Strunk, Heather Goff and Jim Wesley “Bun” Goff arrived at Pyles’ home and began fighting with Pyles, his fiancée and a neighbor.

After a fight, Pyles got a shotgun and demanded that Strunk, Heather Goff and Jim Wes-ley “Bun” Goff leave the property, authorities said.

Jim Wesley “Bun” Goff received one shot to the head, which fatally wounded him. He was pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office at about 8:30 p.m. that night.
