Eubank man charged with molesting girls

Somerset — A Eubank man has been indicted on charges that he had inappropriate sexual contact with three different underage girls.

Gregorio Avina, 40, of Dustin Lane, Eubank, was charged Monday in the indictment with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, on July 15, deputies responded to a 911 call on Dustin Lane. There, they were told by the father of two underage girls — one age 12, the other 10 — that they had been touched inappropriately by a neighbor.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department does not identify the victims of sex crimes.

Investigators learned that Avina, the neighbor of the girls, had allegedly been giving the girls rides on a four-wheeler all-terrain vehicle at the time of the incident. The sheriff’s department said that the two girls were sitting in front of him on the ATV when Avina allegedly fondled them.

Lt. Det. Brett Whitaker of the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department noted that Avina was considered a “friend” of the family the girls belonged to, in response to a question regarding whether or not it would have been unusual for him to be allowing the girls to ride on the four-wheeler.

During the investigation, a third minor came forward, age 14, and alleged that she too had been inappropriately touched by Avina, likely on or about April 6, according to the indictment documentation.

The results of the investigation were presented to a Pulaski County grand jury, which returned an indictment against Avina.

After being charged, Avina was released on a $20,000 cash or property bond.
