Drug probe nets 70 indictments

Sheriff requests help identifying, apprehending suspects

Somerset — A massive total of 70 indictments have been handed down as the result of an undercover drug trade investigation by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.

The indictments involve a total of 111 illegal drug-related charges against the scores of individuals who are now being sought by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department in connection with these offenses. Sheriff Todd Wood is asking for the public’s help in identifying and apprehending these suspects.

Wood noted that this particular set of indictments stems from about six months worth of gathering intelligence and investigation on the part of detectives and deputies, but that even more cases are being prepared for indictment in the next few months.

“Detection of illegal drug trafficking activity in our community is a non-stop effort on our part,” said Wood.

Wood noted that this was “certainly a large batch” of indictments, but stopped short of saying unusually large.

“The number that we have indicted shows a continual effort on our part to combat drug trafficking, but we will continue to do so,” said Wood. “Unfortunately, people in our community or traveling through our community choose to participate in this kind of activity. As long as that continues, these numbers will be there, and we will continue to bring them to justice.”

This town’s first and only electrically warmed sidewalk was installed facing Fountain Square alongside First and Farmers National Bank when the bank’s downtown headquarters building was constructed in 1963-64.
As snow fell, the warm sidewalk melted a walkway about 2 feet wide alongside the bank. It was the talk of the town; quite a gimmick.
