Perry indicted in kidnap, murder scheme

‘Rescue’ plot was for teen girl

Somerset —

A Somerset man was indicted after authorities allegedly came across his alarming plan to take a 16-year-old girl from her home and kill her family.
Steven Matthew Perry, 20, of North Ky. 1247, Somerset, was in-dicted this month by the Pulaski County grand jury on one count of attempted kid-napping, three counts of attemp-ted murder, one count of solicitat-ion to commit kidnapping, one count of solicitation to commit murder, and six counts of being a persistent felony offender.
An investigation began in early September after one of Perry’s friends told detectives that Perry had drafted plans detailing his desires to “rescue” a 16-year-old female from her parents’ residence and “neutralize” the 16-year-old’s family in the process.
The friend went to the police after Perry allegedly approached him and asked for help in carrying out the plot. Perry’s request that his friend help with the plan led to the solicitation to commit murder and kidnapping charges.
The acquaintance was identified as Larry Calhoun in the indictment.
Detectives examined documents provided to them by Calhoun, and they found “a list of steps the suspect would take as well as a list of items needed to carry out the plan,” according to Lt. Det. Brett Whitaker, with the sheriff’s department.
The documents included print-outs of the 16-year-old victim’s home from Google Maps, a written diagram of the victim’s residence and street, and photos of the victim and her family members.
“There were also writings suggesting the suspect would kill the parents and family pets in order to get the child out of the home,” Whitaker said in a press release.
Whitaker said detectives discovered that Perry met the 16-year-old girl through the social networking site Facebook, and later at the Pulaski County Fair. Perry allegedly developed an infatuation with the girl.
